As a parent and an advocate for RF safety, I believe our children’s health and future should be prioritized above all else. Current data from studies like the BioInitiative Report makes it clear: cell towers should not be placed within 500 meters (1,500 feet) of schools to reduce the risk of excessive RF radiation exposure. However, in many cases, towers have already been installed dangerously close to school grounds, leaving parents and communities without recourse due to outdated laws and regulatory failures.
A Path Forward: Practical Solutions to Protect Children
To address this issue, I propose the implementation of a program that ensures safer wireless infrastructure for schools, with a focus on two key solutions:
1. Removing or Relocating Cell Towers
For existing cell towers located within 500 meters of schools, there should be a federally supported program to assist in:
- Removing the tower from the school’s vicinity.
- Relocating the tower to a safer distance, where it can still provide adequate coverage without exposing children to excessive RF radiation.
This program could involve collaboration between local governments, telecom companies, and federal agencies to ensure a smooth and efficient process.
2. Space-Based Wireless Coverage
In cases where relocation is not feasible—due to urban density, geographic limitations, or infrastructure constraints—space-based solutions should be implemented. Technologies like satellite direct-to-cell services can provide coverage to areas near schools while dramatically reducing the amount of RF radiation children are exposed to.
- Why space-based? Satellite solutions transmit at much lower power levels compared to ground-based cell towers, significantly minimizing radiation exposure.
- Future-ready technology: Companies like SpaceX and others are already advancing satellite direct-to-cell networks, making this a viable alternative for safer connectivity.
Why This Matters
Children are more vulnerable to RF radiation due to their thinner skulls and developing tissues. They also face greater cumulative exposure over their lifetimes. Allowing cell towers to remain dangerously close to schools not only disregards this reality but also ignores the growing body of evidence on the potential long-term health impacts of RF radiation.
By establishing a program to remove or replace these towers with space-based solutions, we can:
- Protect public health: Prioritize the well-being of children, our most vulnerable population.
- Modernize infrastructure: Transition to safer, more advanced wireless solutions.
- Restore trust: Show parents and communities that their concerns are being heard and addressed.
Call to Action
President Trump, I urge you to lead the charge in implementing these solutions. By addressing this issue, you can reaffirm your commitment to protecting American families and ensuring that our nation’s infrastructure prioritizes health and safety.
Together, we can create a future where children can learn and grow without unnecessary risks—and where communities are empowered to make decisions that reflect their values and priorities.
